Mailing Lists

Because most OSS projects have geographically dispersed developers, mailing lists are the primary interface for developers and users. Active participation in mailing lists help foster a sense of community in OSS projects, and this community is often a user's first line technical support when problems occur. One powerful side effect of this is that by coupling archived mailing lists with powerful search engines like Google[36], we have created a virtual technical library on every major topic of interest.
